ChessTempo alternatives: keep your repertoire, simplify training
Compare ways to leave or simplify ChessTempo, with a PGN sample and checks for moves, comments, transpositions, and review history.

Choose an opening trainer by the work you want it to do before the first review begins.
If you already maintain a ChessTempo repertoire, the useful alternative is one that preserves the decisions you have made while removing work you no longer need. Start by naming that work: too many training settings, unwanted branches, or a need for somebody else to choose the course material.
This guide uses official documentation checked on September 8, 2026 and an original transfer example. We have not run a cross-product migration benchmark. Disclosure: we make Chessmate.

Listudy describes free opening recall practice. Bookup's edition guide matters if editing and exporting ebooks are requirements. These are different routes, not a ranking of interchangeable products.
Export the material before changing the routine
The ChessTempo manual documents repertoire PGN export from the board's actions menu, including an option for comments. Check the chosen repertoire and that option before saving a backup. The same manual documents branch training and multiple review modes; reducing the active scope may solve the problem without moving anything.
Our two-route PGN contains two short, legal sequences reaching the same position and a comment marker, A. It is a technical sample, not a complete opening recommendation. Keep an untouched copy and compare these items in a candidate tool:

Record each result as preserved, changed, or untested. Do not label an untested feature unsupported. This checklist gives you a small failure you can repair before risking a much larger repertoire.
Decide after a complete correction
With your own small branch, attempt a move without the answer, correct a miss, and find the position again in a later session. If the new tool retains the file but makes that routine harder, easier importing has not solved your training problem. Keep the original account and backup while you decide.
